GIC VIETNAM ACTIVITIES
On 9 October 2026, GIC Vietnam's verification team carried out verification of the 2025 greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory report of Bac Viet Metal Joint Stock Company in Hai Phong, under a witness assessment conducted by Vietnam's Bureau of Accreditation (BoA). This marks the next step in the assessment process for GIC Vietnam's accreditation as a GHG verification body.
Following the office assessment conducted from 17 to 19 August 2026, the witness assessment focused on evaluating the competence of GIC Vietnam's verification team through its application of procedures, methods and professional skills at a company in the metal production sector.
Assessing competence through an actual verification engagement
The verification was conducted at the plant of Bac Viet Metal Joint Stock Company, Lot CN5, Minh Phuong Dinh Vu Industrial Park, Dong Hai Ward, Hai Phong City. The subject of the verification was the plant's 2025 GHG inventory report, covering the production and processing of galvanized steel coils and strips, steel pipes and purlins. ISO 14064-1:2018 served as the verification criteria, with a limited level of assurance.
The GIC Vietnam team comprised Mr. Nguyen Hong Diep, Verification Team Leader; Mr. Le Quoc Bao, Verifier; and Ms. Trinh Thi Tham, Technical Expert. The BoA witness assessment team comprised Mr. Doan Viet Tien, Team Leader, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, GHG Technical Expert.
GIC Vietnam is responsible for conducting the verification and reaching the verification conclusion. BoA conducts the witness assessment to evaluate the team's competence through its preparation, collection and evaluation of evidence, consolidation of findings and presentation of results.
Cross-checking records and data against actual production operations
Based on the strategic analysis, risk assessment and evidence-gathering plan, the verification team conducted a site visit, interviewed responsible personnel, reviewed the data management system and checked activity data. Purchased electricity and compressed natural gas (CNG) were prioritized for verification because they account for a large share of the reported total emissions.
Cross-checking records and data against actual operations helps clarify inventory boundaries, emission sources and the basis for quantification, while also checking data traceability. The team consolidated and evaluated the evidence and agreed on the findings before discussing them with the company at the closing meeting.
During the verification, the team discussed with Bac Viet Metal the information requiring updates or supplementation, as well as opportunities to improve the management of organizational information, record keeping, fuel leak control and the basis for data conversions used in calculations. Addressing these matters helps improve the consistency, traceability and reliability of the inventory report.
Following the on-site activities, GIC Vietnam continues to review the company's responses and supplementary evidence to complete the verification documentation. The formal verification statement is issued after the relevant findings have been addressed and the independent review and decision-making process have been completed in accordance with the established procedure.
Further work to complete the accreditation documentation
The witness assessment report noted that the verification was conducted in accordance with verification principles and followed the planned programme. The team worked diligently, coordinated its activities and communicated professionally with the client during the site visit, review of the data management system, and collection and verification of activity data.
Based on the witness assessment results, the BoA assessment team recommended that GIC Vietnam's GHG verification activities be considered for accreditation once the required corrective actions have been implemented effectively. The areas requiring further work and the assessment team's recommendations provide a basis for GIC Vietnam to continue improving its procedures, strengthening its experts' competence and completing its accreditation documentation. BoA will review the documentation and the results of corrective actions before making an accreditation decision in accordance with the applicable requirements.
Completion of the witness assessment marks the next step in GIC Vietnam's GHG verification accreditation process. It also helps strengthen the quality of its independent verification services, supporting businesses in improving the reliability of data used for emissions management, public disclosure and communication with customers and partners.
